The Meadow Project | Week 52
In partnership with Foothills Conservancy of North Carolina, The Meadow Project was a one year documentation of a 3 acre field that had previously been damaged by agricultural overuse. During this time (February 2022 through February 2023) there was no human interaction with the land whatsoever beyond my documentation; no seeding, planting, building, digging, etc. Visitors were invited to become a part of this project by joining us here each week to watch the process of regrowth unfold as I posted a video every Monday. Can Nature heal itself? Can Nature heal damage that humans have done? What happens when we simply step out of the way? Is there hope in the Anthropocene Age for environmental healing? Can we slow down as a society as a means of honoring and building a more reciprocal relationship with the natural world? Is there wonder in that healing?
*With many thanks to the North Carolina Arts Council and the United Arts Council of Catawba County for funding of this project and to Foothills Conservancy of North Carolina for allowing me to document a sacred part of their recent land acquisition, Oak Hill Community Park and Forest.
